| Pt Erin Pool in Auckland recently has had a recent plant upgrade. The outdated gravity sand filter was replaced with 3 x 2.2 m diameter pressure sand filters. Turnover rate increased to 2 hours. For added energy efficiency, pump motor speeds are regulated using VSD drives with a feedback signal from an electronic flow meter. The pool reopened to the public in November 06. |
Recently, a new water slide was installed at the Panmure Lagoon Pool in Auckland. The slide is some 63m long constructed internally as a black tube (for added thrill and excitement) and replaces a much older half-open tube. The splash/ landing pool was modified to make it unnecessary to have a manned lifeguard station. |

Solar pool heating, not yet popular enough in New Zealand is now installed at three public pools in Auckland. The sites are Mt Roskill Pool, Mt Eden Pool and Westwave in Waitakere. Data logging (before and after) continues at Mt Roskill. The saving in kWh energy consumption is evident and proved to be better than expected. Philips Aquatic Centre in Mt Albert is undergoing a major upgrade to the air handling plant including new humidity control systems for the Leisure and Competition pools and new supply air ducting and diffusion equipment. Works are due to be completed in January 2007. |
